Wonderful performance Dale. I will try this song on my 8x using program 15-8 Stereo Sax. I used that program for In The Mood last night in my performance. 15-8 is also great for Sentimental Journey and PegOf My Heart and several other Big Band songs that I also included in my performance. You did a fabulous work in programming bank 15. Bank 18 is what I choose for the starting polkas and waltzes. Then I jump around to the different banks.

Undoubtedly played well and the instrument is extremely well programmed. But it is precisely because of Dale Mathis' programming that his videos should be banned in Europe! Because these demonstrations entice people to buy the instrument and after purchasing they are disappointed that the device simply doesn't sound like it does in the videos. You could install exactly this sound using software - but the software is only available in America from Kraft-Music - and they don't sell to Europe! I would have even bought my instrument there for a lot more money because of these great sounds, but no chance, they don't sell to Europe!

Note: I get requests from folks around the world to ship a Dale Mathis Edition accordion to them, or help them with their accordion they purchased locally, or to sell software. Sorry, I cannot help you. Roland and Korg have warranty systems in place that restrict US dealers from shipping products outside the dealer's franchise country. And yes, I could have another business in which I sell software and offer services to accordion owners outside the US, but fortunately there is plenty of accordion business here in the US to fully occupy my time.

I very much enjoyed this video. One of the problems (it's a good problem to have) is that in my 8X that I purchased from you is that your presets are SOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD that I haven't explored any of the other factory/box-settings of the accordion yet. And I've had my 8X for three years now.

I'm from the Czech Republic and I play the accordion. At first I had an FR-1 and now I play on an FR-4 (I bought it in Germany from MisteMusic https://www.mistermusic-profishop.de/) I really like how you have nicely prepared individual lessons on your website. I have already played almost all the lessons you have for free. Is it possible to buy more from you? They help me a lot in learning to play the accordion.

Dale, thank you for helping me to get my FR8X up and going again. I just got my accordion back from Roland in Los Angeles for repairs, and Roland had set the program back to factory settings. Thank you for teaching me last year to make a USB backup of your programming. I played the accordion with the factory resets, and while it was okay, it was missing the dynamics and sound quality of Dale's programming. After Dale helped me to load the programs, I said "Now, there's the sound that I have grown to love!" Dale, Thanks again .....Joe

There were variations and fluctuations in volume and occasionally the bass chords would stop playing. After listening patiently to me, you guided me in deleting the program and reinstalling it from my backup flash drive.
You also gave me some information about possible battery impacts. When playing at home for an extended period I now remove the batteries and just use the adapter. When using the batteries, I recharge them after an hour or so rather than letting them run down. All the issues with my FR-4x seem to have been resolved and it sounds better than ever.
I had initially sent you an email about my problems, and to my great surprise, I received a telephone call from you within 15 minutes. This kind of service is unheard of today. I cannot thank you enough for your time, patience, and help.

I got my new 8x today and what a great instrument! I have really enjoyed the 4x, but this is something else. It will take me awhile to adjust to the difference in bellows expression and touch, but I like that it plays more like my acoustic accordions. Thank you so much for all the hours you put in doing the user programs. When I do my keyboard gigs, I do a lot of honky-tonk piano stuff (old folks seem to like that), so I may tweak your turn on orchestra set a little, but everything else is just perfect. Again. thank you.

Hello Dale,
I recently joined the Central Florida Accordion Club and today I attended one of their get togethers. I had planned only to visit and see how these sessions went, but I did bring my accordion with me. The group is such a nice bunch of musicians, mostly all professionals, but they do ask everyone attending to play. Having only gone through about half of your course, I was a little dubious but I went ahead and made my first “performance.” I played Beer Barrel Polka and the Armed Forces Medley (you arranged the Air Force song for me recently). I can’t say that it was a perfect performance, and I was nervous as heck, but it went great! Veterans were standing up for their song!
They then asked me to tell a little about my musical life. I related that I have only been playing for a couple of years on the Roland and (this is why I’m writing) then I pitched your lessons and the Roland line and where they can get them. Apparently I must have been pretty enthusiastic because I got a number of questions and small compliments which are a result of your great lessons.
I hope this brings a smile and maybe a few sales!

Sir: Dennis here, one of your last Crown Music customers, FR-1X. Just a quick note to let you know I thoroughly enjoy the instrument and always look forward to your posts(?) on You Tube. I was attempting to progress through your lesson plan, but at about #15/16 just kind of, well you know, you’ve no doubt had less than ambitious stoonts over the years. [But now] I just go through whatever lesson is presented, and incorporate it in to “play by ear” which is sorta what I do now. I can pick out a melody, and you taught me that the “harmony” is generally below the melody, so I get a real bang out of picking out a tune I like, and “arranging” it (apologies to you and all other musicians) to my liking. I seem to favor the key of F, maybe because that puts me in the middle of the accordion. Of course, my exit piece for every session is the United States Marine Corps hymn, as you arranged it. Thanks!
So glad you shared this with your fans and followers. Good to know that you’re living the good life and should be with us for a good many years to come. You have become a “staple” in my life ever since I discovered you on You Tube. Even though I had an accordion, it’s “your fault” that I purchased a beautiful red 4X and got back into playing again after an almost 50 year hiatus. Lol! Thank you for all that you do for everyone. I love listening to you play on your videos, and was intrigued by the 1X’s light weight and ability to tune down the bellows action required while first learning. Thank you very much for this video/tutorial. It helped me to understand the bass settings a lot better. I was doing okay on my own figuring it out but your video just reassured me. I had been worried that I might really screw something up and would have to call you. Oh no! Lol! So very glad I came across your videos on You Tube. Don’t know if I told you, but I had a small stroke last February. Physically I’m doing fine but I have a little issue with short term memory which is getting better, and some cognition issues. All are going to resolve just fine. When my neurologist found out that I’m playing accordion she assigned accordion practice as my therapy. It’s perfect for that purpose, each hand doing something separate. I’m definitely making progress and it’s a perfect reason to practice daily.

This is quick update, I received the Roland Fr8x and I can say the accordion is one of a kind, I absolutely love how it sounds and how it works. After 14 years of playing classic accordions, exactly half of my life, playing the Roland model is something new, especially with the Bellows movements (haha) and all of the combinations possible. It is WOW. I'm playing it at church and the cordovox sounds are so nice.

Mr. Mathis, I just purchased an FR-8x from Kraft Music, and it’s just about the best accordion I ever owned. Your videos are very helpful, but I ran into this issue: When I plug in a USB flash drive with my tracks on it, either mp3 or WAV, it doesn’t matter which, I see a “false” tracks that don’t do anything.

I just had to tell you how much I’m enjoying my 4x. Now I’m enjoying retirement playing it- can’t say I’m practicing, just enjoying. It’s so easy to play and with your intro videos I started experimenting with the different sounds for the songs. As I get better, I hope to be able to get good enough to start with some “fancy” playing like you.

I was showing the FR4 to friends. I removed the USB drive on which I had recorded a few of my price sessions on to show them the capability. After I turned the accordion off I replaced the usb drive in the accordion. When I powered it it the first thing that happened was a message saying “Working”. I was afraid to shut down and didn’t really know what to do. All of your sets are now empty! I am in a cabin on vacation for the next three weeks and my back usb is at home so I’m stuck with the Roland sets. I didn’t truly appreciate the quality of what you have done [with the Dale Mathis Sounds for Roland FR-4x] until I’ve had to play with the Roland sets. Ugh!

I bought an FR 8x from you last October. Everything is going great. I use it with our band where we do classic rock, country and older standards. I have set up a number of user programs to fit the songs we do. Thank you for your past help and your excellent videos and instructions on using the 8x. I will be visiting my son and am looking forward to playing my FR8x with him. He's a drummer, thus my question. Is there any way to temporarily shut off the drum machine while still accessing your wonderful program sets? I don't want the drum sounds conflicting with his drumming. I also wanted to let you know that I recently played for a fundraiser and received so many compliments about the sounds from your user program sets. I have so much joy playing that amazing instrument, kudos to you! I’m about to order the 8X from David Hall. You’ve been a great help and man o man does all these tubes help. Gives lots of great ideas AND brings back many old memory’s buddy of playing some of these songs as a kid learning in the early 60’s. Will stay in touch. I bought a Roland FR-4X from Dale Mathis in July of 2021. I am enormously pleased with my purchase and I am happy that I purchased from Dale Mathis. Dale is both a musician and a technician! Buying an accordion from Dale Mathis gives you more than just an accordion; you also get excellent customer service. As a musician, I travel a lot. On one such trip for the purpose of recording and performing, my accordion's "Dale Mathis Programming" was suddenly gone; my bad, I let the batteries run down, AND I tried to play the instrument using a power cord at the same time the batteries were installed, an unadvisable action on my part that required a reset to my accordion.
Because I was away from home, I didn't have my Dale Mathis Programming backup USB with me (a mistake I won't make in the future). I contacted Dale and ordered a backup USB sent to the address where I'm staying. Dale made swift arrangements to call and walk me through resetting my accordion. He gave me clear, concise directions over the phone. In less than 5 minutes, my accordion was again in a playable condition, albeit temporarily without the Dale Mathis Programming.
Until the USB arrives, this reset makes my FR-4X playable using the original factory pre-sets. Now I know how a Roland accordion sounds right out of the box. While waiting for my USB backup to arrive, I'm making do with the factory presets, and though they're functional, they don't have the pizazz that Dale's has.
People, do NOT underestimate the Dale Mathis sounds. I'm telling you, they are FANTASTIC! The factory pre-sets are adequate, but Dale, using his musician's ear and his technician's skill, has created sounds that have a "vibrancy." The "Dale Mathis Programming" sounds have depth where needed and shimmer in all the right places. With my accordion currently in "factory-reset mode," the pre-loaded instruments sound rather one-dimensional compared to the sounds that Dale has created. A huge benefit to buying from Dale Mathis is getting his "Dale Mathis Programming." This sound library he has created are a joy to use.
Dale takes a fantastic Roland instrument and makes it even better with his Dale Mathis Programming. His superb customer service is the icing on the cake!

Just wanted to send you some feedback on your lessons and sheet music, which I am enjoying very much. I have gone through lessons 1 - 10 and have played songs 2 - 10 with some level of acceptance but keep practicing them, not quite perfect yet. I have stayed with songs that you have demonstrated since that provides me with expertise on how they should be played. I have a difficult time finding the Bank and register to match your sounds and many are only close I believe. I have practiced Easy Peasy Polka numerous times and have become proficient in executing the various runs with the sharps and flat. However, I cannot seem to find the ideal Bank & Registration as demonstrated and often play with B -1, R-1 - Brassy. I have found B-19, R-05 French musette to be fairly acceptable in sound. On this tune I find myself getting into a too fast tempo which trips me up on runs, and I continue to seek discipline to slow it down.
I have been playing Wooden Heart with some smooth success and I remember playing this tune for my Grandmother when I was about 14. She and my Grandfather had immigrated from Norway. My Father was born in the US. I know I am rushing things and pushing myself. I guess the biggest factor with that is I am not young anymore, and I am trying to recapture lost talent while trying to attain a suitable level of playing. Thank you for all of the great work you have done with the sheet music and lessons. (Rick had a lot more to share, but I edited his comments for brevity.)

I was playing my FR-4X accordion for about an hour, took a break when the phone rang. When I went back to the accordion, for some reason the software seemed to be corrupt. I called Dale and within 10 minutes he had me up and running. You cannot put a dollar value on this kind of service. Thanks Dale for everything you've done for the Roland accordion players.

I would Like to thank you very much for all your work you have put in with your easy teaching lessons. I learnt guitar in the 50s and played in local band also at school, left school and the guitar. Brought an accordion in the early 70s and tried to learn using Sedlon books, but I didn't do to well.
My wife passed away last July and found I needed something to keep me occupied so I brought a Hohner 1304, I didn't know if my back, my hands , or my mind would cope with any thing bigger.
I trolled the internet and it was your lessons and teaching that got me going. Printed all your sheet lessons up to #10, now starting on #7.
I'm in my early 80s and I can't play with 2 fingers, they just won't to do 2 different things at the same time. At least I can actually play the tunes correctly, your finger guides have helped considerably and find they get placed in the correct positions. I believe that without your guidance I would have given up by now.

I admire your playing and how you put your tunes together. I was wondering if you might have a list of sorts that identifies what banks and registrations you are using with the sheet music. I have been meaning to drop you a line and let you know I HAVE BEEN HAVING A BALL with my Roland FR 1X. As I told you I am 83 and had heart surgery that didn't go as planned so I have to take it easy. Am not ready for America's Got Talent yet. Ha Ha! Can play lots of songs which has been a life saver. The doctor asked me what I do with myself expecting me to say "Nothing" I told him I was teaching myself to play the accordion. He nearly fell off his chair.

After receiving I never would have survived the computer learning curve without Dale's phone help. Once you set up your Library of sounds and download backing tracks. It becomes easy and you can just rely on your accordion skills.

Thank you for all your instruction and help. Or maybe I should say, because of your online lessons, it's your fault I play the accordion now! I doubt you recall, I started with just an accordion phone app - went through lessons 1-20+ (before you added so much more content), the EZ Song book (where I got Moscow Nights), and First Solos, then finally got an acoustic accordion, then another, and finally the Roland 8x from you.

My purchase experience with Kraft and yourself was nothing but first class! I could not be more satisfied and I know support is only a phone call away if needed. Quality customer service in this country seems to be decaying fast. The personal touch is gone in most cases but not at Kraft Music. Please don't let that happen at Kraft. My purchase experience with Kraft and yourself was nothing but first class! I could not be more satisfied and I know support is only a phone call away if needed. Quality customer service in this country seems to be decaying fast. The personal touch is gone in most cases but not at Kraft Music. Please don't let that happen at Kraft. I have unpacked but have not tried my new accordion as yet but I am sure I will love it. Again, thank you, be safe and healthy.

When I was deciding to buy an FR-4x, I thought I may be making a dumb mistake at my age. I am 82. That has changed. This accordion is utterly amazing. The multitude of treble and bass tone changes is amazing. I discover something new every time I pick up the accordion. Slowly, but surely, my small brain is absorbing a lot of the possibilities. I've only played my acoustic accordion once in the past year. I'll keep playing as long as possible to put smiles on nursing home residents. I'm glad I did not purchase the accordion from the other dealer. Your programming is definitely boss.

I watch your videos specifically to pick up instructions and tidbits. Thank you for making them. Very helpful! For instance, I thought it was crazy there was no way to tell how much juice was left in the 8x batteries. I went through the manual but somehow missed that gem! And I have struggled with keeping the power cord safe so your suggestion about wrapping it around the strap is great. I wonder how many other things I need to be alerted to to make sure I am not damaging my accordion. Would love more videos on technical aspects you don't usually cover.

I received the 8x accordion yesterday afternoon and set it up. I played it until after midnight. I worked my way up to UPG bank 17. So far, all the User Banks are top quality sounds. I plan to try it out at the - - German Restaurant tomorrow for a five hour performance. Thanks, again, Dale for all the work you do with these Roland accordions.

One thing that I find your videos have - that many others do not - is you can clearly see what both hands are doing. This is important as we can clearly see and hear how the left hand buttons are being used. Your music videos are not just performances – but educational experiences. Others often have the face of the performer and the top of the instrument. Your screens are often filled with just the accordion in action. I also like your explanations and demonstrations for each model. As others have said, the manual is more technical than useful for playing. Seeing, hearing and having the changes explained, step by step, makes a whole lot of difference to the experience.

Just wanted to let you know that I am loving the 4x Red accordion. I'm still trying to figure out how to get a particular sound and by trial and error, but I'm getting it figured out. That is part of the fun ---being surprised by an amazing sound - one right after the other. I just celebrated my 72 birthday.
I LOVE playing the songs that have the backing tracks. It always blows my socks off. I have two little dogs and a kitty. When I play they come in off the patio or if I'm on the patio playing they come from the woods to listen. It is amazing and sometimes the birdies come and hang around in the trees. It's as if all of nature loves music. It is so good for my soul.
You are a most AMAZING MAN to have put all the extra juice in the accordion and then gathering all the music and the backing tracks. This is a most wonderful gift to all of us who worked too hard and too long and did not have time to keep on playing in our earlier years. Now the music is a wonderful fascinating learning curve. Without your help I know I would not have been playing and enjoying life as much as I am now. We did play for about 30y at a local nursing home every Sunday or Saturday. Now with this %$#@covid the NH don't allow visitors or live music.. Hopefully that will change soon. The patients loved it and so do their families and we had a weekly crowd.

I have been Playing since I was 7 yrs old. Started on a 12 base junior accordion, then after 2 years my parents got me a 120 bass Hohner Atlantic IV Deluxe - which I still have. In 1964 I purchased a "Super V" Cordovox (with 64 tube tone generator!). In 2008 I purchased an FR-7 from a NJ dealer. After 3 months, they had to replace the keyboard circuit board and I had doubts about the future of that instrument. In 2016 I happened to find Crown Music's site featuring Dale and was immediately taken by the sounds and versatility he put into the FR8x. I kept watching his videos and luckily on a trip to the west coast I was able to stop in Sun City and meet Dale at Crown for a live demo. I purchased an FR-8x after that and never looked back. Dale is a MASTER!

Dale Mathis has been very supportive of me over the years after my purchase of the FR4x digital accordion. I play my instrument at an Italian restaurant in Honolulu and it is very important that I keep it in top playing condition and programmed to the best sound settings. Dale, This Roland 8x has played the Hell out of me for 2 weeks straight. I pick it up and 3 hours go by and a 2 foot stack of music. Twice a day I've been doing that. Ummm, no not much work has been getting done, pretty much stay at shop and play... LOL I think you knew that Roland was mine when you posted the video that I see you re posted. Small World was first song I learned on the box and well I'm 2 hours from Disney..... I play the mouse club one too, mostly gotta have music, last Teacher, before You made me sight read. Oh, Teacher, those breaks in the Looney Toons Polka, Good One... I can't play thru them to save my rear end.. My left hand goes into 3/4 time to follow my right hand every time. LOL

Proof that even a quite mediocre player can have more fun. I’ve played more in the two years I have had (my FR-4x) than in the past twenty years with my other instruments. I’ve recently added a Ketron SD 90 arranger. Great fun!

I just wanted you know I appreciate you sharing your accordion experience with everyone and how much I appreciate watching you and learning from you. I just turned 80, but I would like to go out to Senior Centers and Nursing Homes to play, as you have. My problem is I can't always remember the notes without the sheet music. Is that so bad? LoL I appreciate you publishing sheet music for people like me who aren't even customers. I wish I bought my Roland 1X from you, so I would also have your sounds, instead of where I bought it before I was aware of Sun City Accordion. I listen to your music on YouTube and download your sheet music, especially the music that has the bass notes. I have been looking for nice waltzes to learn and found a couple I like, such as Sunny Day Waltz, and Remember, Dear Waltz. Thanks for taking the time from your busy schedule to read this.

Just bought a ROLAND FR-4X accordion and can't wait to receive it!! Dale called me personally to advise that it would be in my hands on Friday. Both he and Donna were easy to work with and I'm certain that owning this fabulous instrument will motivate me to work harder on my music to become proficient.
